Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been doing this?

We have been in the paint and restoration industry since 1995 and have focused almost exclusively on painting since 2005.

How long do your jobs take?
This ultimately depends on the scope of the project but most of our residential jobs are between 1-3 days. We strive to complete the job as fast as possible without compromising the quality – That’s the Express way!
Are you insured?
Yes! We carry WSIB insurance along with private liability insurance so you can rest easy knowing you’re covered in the rare chance anything goes wrong.
Are your painters trustworthy?
Yes! We take pride in hiring and working with only the best talent. All of our painters are background checked before joining our roster. This ensures your home or business are in good hands.
Do you charge for estimates?
No! All of our in person estimates are free of charge and there is no obligation on your end to proceed with us.
Should I buy my own paint?
We get a contractor discount from our suppliers and forward that savings on to you. Even sale prices are generally not as cheap as our rates but if you would like to purchase your own paint, you absolutely can. We still recommend speaking with our pros before purchasing to ensure you are getting good quality paint.
What type of paint do you use?
We work with Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Dulux for our paint projects and the types of paint will depend on the type of job.
How many coats of paint do you use?
We always use at least 2 coats of paint. Darker colours may require additional coats.
What are your operation hours?
We are open Monday – Friday 9am – 6pm and Saturday from 9am – 3pm.
Do you work after hours?
Yes! If the job requires it, we can accommodate odd hours.
What prep is needed for the job?
Prep is important and can be time consuming but to ensure the contents of your home or business are safe, we take this step seriously. We generally move all furniture to the center of the room and cover it along with any exposed section of the floor. This ensures that if there is any paint drip, your furniture and floor doesn’t get damaged.

As professional painters we can assess how many coats an area requires and if whether or not it needs to be primed in addition to any sanding or de-glossing requirements. We also caulk, and fill holes to make sure the finished product is beautiful.

What is low or zero voc paint?
VOC’s are Volatile Organic Compounds and are toxic chemicals that are released as the paint dries. Nowadays, we have many paint options that are low in VOC’s or have no VOC’s. In order to protect the environment and the inhabitants of your house we use these eco-friendly options wherever possible.
How do I choose the right colour?
With the amount of colours and variations we have today it can be overwhelming to find the right ones. We recommend getting a colour consultation done so our pros can help guide you in the right direction. The consultation is free and will help save you time and money, and can prevent issues that may arise in the future. Express Paint offers free colour consultations with our estimates on all of our projects.
Can you paint match existing colours?
Yes, but it is almost impossible to get an exact match as the sheen may be different even if colour matches. We always will leave any leftover paint so you can use it to touch up any damaged areas or buy more of the same.
Can we apply latex paint over oil based paint?
Yes, but usually that will require de-glossing, sanding, and priming. Nowadays, there are other paint options that may not require the additional steps. Our pros can guide you through this during the consultation.
Will rain affect my new exterior paint?
No! Once the paint has dried, rain will not damage the paint. Exterior paint has drying agents that allow water to skim over the surface without any damage.
